Jewish Parent Academy was born from a simple but urgent observation: Jewish parents want to give their children a meaningful Jewish identity — but many feel they don't have the knowledge, confidence, or community to do it well. They care deeply. They just don't always feel equipped.

JPA was founded to change that. Not by adding another program to an already crowded Jewish landscape, but by doing something fundamentally different: investing in parents as the primary architects of Jewish identity in the home. Because when parents are inspired and informed, something remarkable happens. The learning doesn't stay in the classroom. It travels home. It shapes conversations, holidays, and the quiet, everyday moments where Jewish identity is actually formed.

Building Something New

JPA was created by a group of Generation 1.5 immigrants from the former Soviet Union — parents who came of age with little formal Jewish education, but arrived in America with a deep desire to raise knowledgeable, proud, and engaged Jewish children. What they lacked in background they more than made up for in passion — and in the conviction that rigorous, intellectually serious Jewish learning should be accessible to every Jewish parent, regardless of background or prior knowledge.

That conviction became JPA's defining approach: an academic, content-driven model that brings world-class scholars and thinkers into an intimate cohort setting, creating space for honest conversation, deep learning, and genuine connection. No religious prerequisites. No prior knowledge required. Just curiosity, and a commitment to show up.

The results were immediate and unmistakable. Participants didn't just leave better informed — they left transformed. They described feeling, for the first time, like they truly understood the story they were a part of. They started having different conversations with their children, their spouses, their communities.

Word spread. A second cohort formed. Then a third. Then new chapters in new cities, each seeding its own community while drawing on the same rigorous curriculum, the same caliber of faculty, and the same founding conviction: that Jewish parents are the most important — and most underserved — audience in Jewish communal life.

What We've Built

Today, JPA is an independent, grassroots organization operating across nine communities on both coasts, with a national online program that connects participants from across the country. Our flagship cohort — a structured, semester-long program — has graduated over 420 alumni. Thousands more have participated in our JPA 2.0 short-course series, community salons, and holiday programs.

The impact, documented in our 10-year alumni survey, speaks for itself. 98% of our alumni report feeling more connected to the Jewish historical narrative. 97% feel a personal responsibility to invest in Jewish life and support Israel. 66% say JPA connected them to other Jewish organizations and communities they hadn't previously been part of. And nearly 40% have taken on formal leadership roles in the Jewish community since their time in JPA.

We didn't set out to build a leadership pipeline. We set out to educate parents. The leadership followed naturally — because that is what happens when people feel genuinely empowered.

What We Believe

We believe that Jewish identity is not inherited automatically. It is transmitted — through knowledge, conversation, and the pride and confidence of parents who feel connected to something larger than themselves.

We believe that the Jewish story is one of the most remarkable stories ever told — and that every Jewish parent deserves to know it, own it, and pass it on.

We believe in the power of community. Not the performative kind, but the kind built slowly, in small groups, around shared learning and genuine human connection — the kind where alumni step into leadership roles and create new opportunities for learning and engagement for themselves, their families, and their friends.

We believe that the work of raising proud Jewish families is a privilege to be embraced.

And while JPA is a nondenominational and nonpolitical organization, open to Jewish parents of every background and affiliation, we stand without reservation with the Jewish people and with Israel. That is not a political position. It is who we are.
