Our Story
In 2015, seven Russian-speaking Jewish (RSJ) parents from Brooklyn established the Jewish Parent Academy (JPA). As alumni of elite Jewish leadership programs and active lay leaders, we used our personal Jewish experiences and expertise as communal leaders to inform our vision for JPA. Today, we’re a one-of-a-kind, non-denominational, adult Jewish learning program that seeks to empower “Generation 1.5” to take ownership of their multilayered Russian-Jewish-American identity, and become active contributors to their communities through leadership, volunteerism, and philanthropy. JPA has directly kindled the Jewish journeys of hundreds participants and their families. JPA alumni serve in varying Jewish communal leadership roles, establish grassroots RSJ initiatives, become more philanthropic and Jewishly engaged.
Our Vision
At JPA we strive to build Russian-Jewish-American community that is empowered through:
-
Being educated about its Jewish and Russian heritage
-
Taking responsibility for its needs
-
Leading by authentic committed leadership
-
Giving back to the broader Jewish community
We believe that learning about our heritage will inspire Russian Jewish families to create a vibrant and unique community. JPA is a vehicle that uses education to drive action.
Our Mission
To engage in activities of community building across the Russian-Jewish-American community locally and nationally, through education and fostering leadership and philanthropy.
